How to add days to a date
- Choose Add to move forward, or Subtract to move back.
- Enter your starting date, an amount, and a unit: days, weeks, months or years.
- Select your state or territory, then Calculate to see the resulting date and its weekend or public holiday status.
Adding days counts calendar days, including weekends and holidays. The state selection checks the date you land on; it does not move the result to a working day. Use the Working Days Calculator when you need to add business days.
Subtract days: find a date in the past
To find a date before today or another starting date, choose Subtract and enter a positive number. For example, seven days before a Monday is the previous Monday. These shortcuts count back from today:
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate 30, 60 or 90 days from today?
Choose a Days from today shortcut to calculate the date automatically, or select Add, use today's date and enter your number of days. Today follows the selected state's time zone, with NSW as the default. Today is day zero: one day from today is tomorrow. All calendar days count, including weekends and public holidays.
Is adding 30 days the same as adding one month?
No. Adding 30 days always moves forward by 30 calendar days. Adding one month moves to the same day in the following month, or its final day when that date does not exist. For example, one month after 1 February is 1 March, which is 28 or 29 days later.
How do I calculate a date before my starting date?
Choose Subtract, enter your starting date and the amount of time to go back, then select Calculate. Enter a positive amount; the Subtract option controls the direction.
What happens when I add a month to 31 January?
The calculator uses the last day of the target month if that month does not have the original day. One month after 31 January is the last day of February. Adding a year to 29 February follows the same rule when the following year is not a leap year.
Does adding days skip weekends and public holidays?
No. Days and weeks count all calendar days. The result tells you whether the landing date is a weekend or statewide public holiday in your selected state. It does not deduct regional, part-day or restricted-sector holidays.
How do I find the number of days between dates I already know?
Use Between two dates and enter both dates to measure the gap. Add or subtract is for when you know one date and the amount of time to move forward or back.
