About Christmas
Christmas Day is celebrated on 25 December across all of Australia as a national public holiday.
How Australians Observe Christmas
Christmas in Australia falls in the middle of summer, so celebrations happen on the beach or at a backyard barbecue as often as around a table. Most workplaces shut down from Christmas Eve through to New Year, making it the longest informal break of the year. Families travel long distances to get together, and many Australians combine Christmas with a summer holiday.
