Anzac Day 2027 falls on Sunday 25 April. Five jurisdictions turn that into a weekday holiday on Monday 26 April: NSW, the ACT, Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia. Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania mark the Sunday and work the Monday.

Which states get the Monday off in 2027?

Anzac Day is commemorated on 25 April every year. What changes is whether your state adds a weekday holiday when the 25th lands on a weekend, and how it does it.

The Anzac Day long weekend

Where the Monday is a holiday, 2027 gives you a clean three-day weekend from Saturday 24 to Monday 26 April. One day of leave on Tuesday 27 April stretches it to four.

Anzac Day in other years

The date never moves, so the only question each year is which weekday 25 April lands on. A weekday Anzac Day needs no substitute and gives everyone the same day off.

2027 is the wider substitution of the two weekend years. In 2026 only three jurisdictions topped up the Saturday; in 2027 five cover the Sunday.

Dawn services and what's open

Services, marches and commemorations run on Sunday 25 April 2027, the day itself, rather than on the Monday holiday. Capital-city dawn services generally start between 5:30am and 6am, and the national ceremony at the Australian War Memorial is broadcast live.

Trading follows the usual public-holiday pattern. Banks, government offices and most professional workplaces close; supermarkets, petrol stations, hospitals and hospitality open, often on reduced hours. RSL clubs run commemorative programs, and several states allow two-up on the day under special rules.

Why the date matters

Anzac Day marks the Gallipoli landing of 25 April 1915, when Australian and New Zealand Army Corps troops came ashore on the Gallipoli Peninsula in what is now Turkey. It has been a national day of remembrance since 1916.

That history is why the commemoration stays fixed to the 25th while the day off moves. States shift the holiday for the working week; they do not shift the day.
