Reconciliation Day 2026 Australia

Reconciliation Day is unique to the ACT and was first observed as a public holiday in 2018. It is held on 27 May (or the nearest Monday), marking the anniversary of the 1967 referendum and the tabling of the Bringing Them Home report.

Reconciliation Day promotes awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures, and achievements. Events include community gatherings, cultural performances, and educational programs. The ACT is currently the only jurisdiction to observe it as a public holiday.
