About The Ekka (Royal Queensland Show)
Ekka People's Day is Brisbane's public holiday for the Royal Queensland Show.
How Australians Observe The Ekka (Royal Queensland Show)
The Ekka has been a Brisbane institution since 1876, bringing together show bags, sideshow rides, woodchop competitions, and livestock judging at the Brisbane Showgrounds. Ekka People's Day is a public holiday for Brisbane only — the rest of Queensland isn't off work, though many regional shows have their own local show-day holidays on different dates. Showbags and the strawberry sundae queue are the stuff of Brisbane childhood memories.
