How to count days between dates

  1. Enter a start date and an end date.
  2. Choose whether to include the end date. For business days, select your state or territory too.
  3. Select Calculate to see the total calendar days, date breakdown, weekdays and weekend days.

Monday to Friday is four days apart, or five when you include the end date. The result also expresses the gap in years, months, weeks and remaining days. When business-day counting is enabled, a separate total removes weekends and statewide public holidays.

Have a starting date and a length of time instead? Use the add or subtract date calculator to find the date before or after it.

Weeks and months between dates

To count weeks between two dates, divide the total days by seven. For example, 45 days is six weeks and three days. The result shows this total separately from the calendar breakdown.

Calendar months vary in length. This date duration calculator counts whole calendar years and months first, then splits the remaining days into weeks and days. That is why one calendar month is not always four weeks.

Frequently asked questions

Can I calculate weeks between dates as well as days?

Yes. The result shows the total days and the equivalent number of whole weeks plus remaining days. Each week is seven calendar days. The separate calendar breakdown counts whole years and months first, so its weeks figure only describes the remainder.

Is the end date included in the number of days?

The default result is the gap between the dates, excluding the end date. Select Include end date to count both endpoints. Two identical dates give zero days by default, or one day when the end date is included.

What if my end date is before my start date?

The calculator shows the size of the gap as a positive number and notes that your dates are reversed. You do not need to swap the dates to measure the interval.

How are business days different from the total days?

Total days includes every calendar day. The separate business-day result excludes Saturdays, Sundays and statewide public holidays for your selected state or territory. Local show days, regional holidays, part-day holidays and restricted-sector holidays are not deducted.

Can I share my date difference result?

After calculating, select Copy link. The link saves the dates, counting options and selected state so someone opening it can see the same calculation.
