2027 opens with a long weekend, because New Year's Day is a Friday. Easter and the Christmas week are the other two that every state shares. Everything in between depends on where you live, and a couple of the year's best breaks only exist if you spend a leave day on them.
Every 2027 long weekend, state by state
A long weekend arrives on its own when a public holiday lands on a Friday or a Monday. Here is every 2027 break that gives three days off with no leave at all, and who gets it.

Regional show days add more. Tasmania and the Northern Territory both run Friday show holidays through winter and spring, and Queensland gazettes a show day for almost every council. Your state long weekends page lists the ones that apply where you live.
The two breaks everyone shares
Easter is the cleanest. Good Friday is 26 March and Easter Monday is 29 March, so all eight states and territories get four days off without touching their leave balance.
Christmas is bigger. Christmas Day and Boxing Day both land on the weekend, so every state adds substitute holidays on Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 December. That's four days off, and New Year's Day 2028 falls on a Saturday with a Monday substitute in most states.
March, June and October: the months that split by state
March 2027: three separate long weekends
Western Australia goes first, with Labour Day on Monday 1 March. A week later Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and the ACT all take Monday 8 March, as Labour Day, Adelaide Cup Day, Eight Hours Day and Canberra Day respectively.
Easter then arrives for everyone at the end of the month. NSW, Queensland and the Northern Territory have no March holiday other than Easter, which makes their March the quietest in the country.
June 2027: two Mondays, none in Queensland
The King's Birthday is Monday 14 June in NSW, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, the Northern Territory and the ACT. Western Australia sits it out and takes WA Day on Monday 7 June instead. Queensland has no June public holiday at all.
October 2027: a busy Monday
Four jurisdictions take Monday 4 October. It's Labour Day in NSW, South Australia and the ACT, and the King's Birthday in Queensland. Western Australia takes its King's Birthday a week earlier, on Monday 27 September, and northern Tasmania follows with Recreation Day on Monday 1 November.
Where Anzac Day splits the country
Anzac Day 2027 is a Sunday, so five jurisdictions add a holiday on Monday 26 April: NSW, the ACT, Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia. Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania don't.
In those three states the Anzac long weekend costs a leave day. Everywhere else it's free, and it's the only long weekend in April.

Good Friday is 26 March 2027 and Easter Monday is 29 March. That's a week earlier than 2026, when Good Friday fell on 3 April, so check your school terms before booking anything.
Is there a long weekend in March 2027?
Yes, though not the same one everywhere. WA has Monday 1 March; Victoria, SA, Tasmania and the ACT share Monday 8 March; Easter closes the month for the whole country.

Is there a bank holiday in NSW in 2027?
Monday 2 August, but it won't get you a day off. The NSW Bank Holiday is restricted to banks and a few finance roles, so it isn't a statewide long weekend.
