Why another school's calendar may differ
Victoria's School Dates policy lets school councils schedule up to five student-free days. The fifth depends on the principal scheduling a common professional-practice day. The allowance is not a promise that every school will use five days.
Only the first day of Term 1 is fixed statewide. A neighbouring school may choose different dates for its other days, even when both schools follow the same term calendar.
Check your child's January start
The official 2027 term calendar starts Term 1 on Wednesday 27 January for staff, with students starting Thursday 28 January. Confirm whether your school has scheduled another student-free day or separate commencement arrangements for your child's year level.
Ask for the school's full-year calendar, then add its confirmed curriculum days to the Victorian term planner. Check care availability for each date rather than assuming the service follows the school's opening days.
