How Many Working Days in 2027? Complete Australian Guide
Estimated 2027 working days for each Australian state and territory, plus what the 2027 public holiday pattern means for payroll, planning and annual leave.

Working day counts in 2027 will be slightly uneven across Australia, but not wildly so. For most states and territories, the year will land somewhere between 251 and 253 working days, depending on local holidays and substitute arrangements.
Estimated 2027 working days by state
- ACT: about 251 working days
- NSW: about 253 working days
- NT: about 252 working days
- QLD: about 252 working days
- SA: about 253 working days
- TAS: about 251 working days
- WA: about 252 working days
- VIC: about 253 working days before the AFL Grand Final Eve date is finalised
Victoria is the awkward one. The Friday before the AFL Grand Final is still a public holiday, but the exact 2027 date is still subject to the AFL schedule. Once that date is confirmed, Victoria's final working-day count will likely drop by one weekday.
Why 2027 is unusual
Two calendar quirks drive the numbers:
- Anzac Day falls on Sunday 25 April, which creates an extra Monday holiday in some states but not all.
- Christmas Day and Boxing Day fall on the weekend, which creates substitute holidays on Monday 27 December and Tuesday 28 December.
Those substitute days reduce working days late in the year, while the Anzac Day treatment creates a sharper gap between states than people might expect.
Who should care?
If you're planning payroll, annual budgets, quoting turnaround times, or working out how many business days sit inside a contract, the difference between 251 and 253 is not trivial. Over a large team or a full-year budget, it matters.
Use the Working Days Calculator for exact date ranges and compare the underlying holiday mix on the Public Holidays pages. For leave planning, the Leave Planner is the fastest way to turn these counts into actual time off decisions.
